  • For A Good Time.........

You'll never guess what big fun thing happened to me, last week...I turned 60....YAY !! What a riot !! Silliest thing I ever heard of !! Amazing !! Just too many giggles to be real !!!

A few years ago, when I realized that my brother was turning the big Six Oh-my-goodness, I called him up to cheer him on. Now, I'm sure that at first he thought this was just another ridleycule {a family jibe}. It sounded like I was lauding it over him and making fun, but, but, but,...that wasn't it at all. I really do think it's the most amazingly funny thing. We're talking about a kid that I palled around with most of my life...and now he was going to be 60...and...I couldn't possibly be more than 34 or so...buahahaha...it's really funny, face it.

Remember being 7 or 8 and thinking how ancient your Dad was, and if you're from my generation, our mantra was that no one over 30 understood anything {they didn't}. When do we stop wanting to be older? At first we just want to age into our privileges : make-up / dating / driving / job / go away to college / get your own apartment / get married / be taken seriously......hmmm....I wonder.......maybe that's the buzz kill !!!! Be Taken Seriously ?!?!?

Since I seem to have skipped this one, along with make-up and driving, it certainly does explain a lot....like, how I can find it so very funny to turn 60. Like pizza and beer and store bought chocolate layer cake with 'yellow' roses, funny. If you're given the chance, and you're looking for a really fun thing to do, turn 60 ...it's almost like being 34 again. ('Scuse me while I go finish recovering from the 'roses' )

  • i got somethin'. shortly after my dad retired, about a decade ago, i passed through the unsettling realization that being humorous tends to get one taken less seriously, and that enthusiasm is actually, as a rule, a liability. in spite of the fact that my father had always been both of those things he managed to accrue a pretty spiffy international reputation in his field (the later years weren't so good to him, but that's another story). so i put the question to him: what gives? he replied with the title of the notebook gene wilder pried from the reluctant bones of his long dead grandfather in the movie "young frankenstein."

"i dunno", he said, "but evidently It's How I Did It."

and i gotta say, he HAD done it. and so have you, moe.

    HAPPY 60th! keep doing it.

  • I'm only 57yrs old

  • Many, Many , Many Happy Returns,

  • my uncle's line for years was that he was 30--even when his daughter's had their 40th birthday parties...

    happy birthday!

  • birthday!!!  damn, july crept up on me and i forgot two people's birthdays until after the fact. hope you enjoyed your day and this is the start of some kick-ass years ahead. let's shake some things up

    .

  • what have you been up to lately??  it's so hot here in dallas it's brain-fryin' to venture out for any length of time. seriously. tell me how nice the weather is in massachusetts. tell me i should move to massachusetts. tell me at least my brain aint so fried i can't spell *massachusetts*. i'm just babbling here, but i figure you won't mind. everytime it gets this hot here in texas - which is every july/august - i threaten to move north. and by north, i mean UP THERE...way UP THERE. maine. nova scotia. then the weather gets all nice in the fall/winter here...and i forget about the heat we have. my brain starts to de-sizzle, and i get all comfortable when the summer is out of here. but, as god is my witness, this time i'm going to remember: move north. plan the move. sell everything and just move UP THERE. (yes, i'm dreaming, please...just humor me).

    so...whatcha been doing?
