    -------------------
How about some of my favorite birthday cards - -
(Front): I've seen 50 year olds look a lot worse than you...(Inside): Get used to this kind of compliment.
(Front): Just because it's your Birthday, doesn't mean I'm going to be nice to you
......(Inside): I'm going to be nice to you because my Mom taught me to be kind to old people.

The philosopher Jaeger once said, "You can't always get what you want," and also noted "...but if you try, sometimes, you get what you need."
    --------------------
May those who love us, love us
And those that don't love us,
    May God turn their hearts.
And if He doesn't turn their hearts,
May He turn their ankles, so
We'll know them by their limping.

    "You're never too old to do goofy stuff." {Ward Cleaver}
    ----------------------
Dear Lord - I pray for the Wisdom to understand a man, the Love to forgive him, and the Patience for his moods. Because Lord, if I pray for Strength, I'll just beat him to death.
    ----------------------
"When Life gives you lemons, smile politely, and throw them away when Life isn't looking..."
    ----------------------
    Wake up in the morning,
    Get yourself to work.
    Fraggles never fool around,
    Fraggles never shirk.
    Your duty's always waiting,
    And duty must be done.
There's ping-pong games that must be played,
And songs that must be sung.
    -----------------------------------------------------
    Ta, for now.....

  • I love it when you post like this!  I get a laugh or two, yes - but underneath the humor is that kernel of truth that just waits for us to pick it up and go with it.  Thanks, my friend, for starting my day with a smile!   ; )

  • way more uplifting and pleasant than my post. Thank you--it's the holidays. I shouldn't be so glum.

  • what is that alphabet thing about?

  • Ahhhhhh! Go gray-no way! Actually buying hair color is on my list of to-do things today. Seems those lovely little wirey gray hairs around my face are color resistant. And love to stand at attention!!

  • You forgot, "When you're over the hill, it's all downhill."

    Fred

  • Great post!  But whatever happened to the Fraggles?

  • yeah...well...you're not my only reader, ya know. some of 'em haven't seen it. a surprising number, actually...since not having seen it sort of implies you've got a life... you know. unlike me. and certain unspecified readers of mine.

    ;)

  • "teaching someone to read"....that's almost a spiritual thing. how can it not be?

  • ryc: imma put some bumps on yours.

i will, however, give you a choice as to exactly where they'll go. so "bone up" on your phrenology.

  • Ryc: ....mmmmm…winter food. Now, the tea choice should have something to do with the food choice. I’ve got an autumnal harvest Darjeeling that’s medium bodied and a bit spicy – I think maybe a squash soup with cream and a bit of nutmeg. Or you could go with a darker brew, like a strong Assam, and pair it with a brisket roasted with carrots and potatoes (my chef serves his brisket with a lapsang shouchong reduction that’s to die for). On my night off this week, I was craving dessert, so I cut up a few apples into a porcelain ramekin with some butter, sugar, and spices and made a crumble by mashing some butter and a splash of water into a pile of flour and oats, put the crumble on the apples, and baked it for 20 minutes or so (till it’s done, my chef says). I served it with a side of yogurt with a bit of maple syrup mixed in, and though I didn’t have tea, I probably would have a peppermint and ginger root tisane (perfect for an after-dinner digestif) with that.

There you go - a three course meal!

  • Ha! Great, thanks for the fraggle reference. How quickly we forgot. Next time around, i wanna be travelin' Matt.

  • ryc: between you and me, I always hated Mahattan clam chowder...and I'm from there. I'm going to have to blame the Italians on that one; us Irish wouldn't never have messed with something as perfect as cream, butter, clams and potatoes mixed together.

  • And I did mean Manhattan...

  • RYC: That pot is the one on the shelf,it found it's spot rather quickly.I absolutely loved your call off message to your boss. We are having nasty weather and the forcast doesn't look good all week.Sleet, and freezing rain.I'll be a nervous wreck until winter is over.(Somedays I am the acting manager so I have to go to work)Then I am the one who gets to answer the call-offs.But I never got one as good as yours!!!!

  • I really like 'I'll fly away' too. It was sung often at a small meeting I used to go to, upbeat  with tambourines and dancing.
