Today I've been pondering the imponderable, or maybe it's the ironic, or is it moronic, or anagramic, or analgesic, or hyperbolic, or hyperbaric, or maybe just weird. Dunno. Probably just silly.....I like silly (on occasion).
First ponderance - - How can you figure out what day of the week it is by looking at the calendar? You can't. They've got all these scrolley things on TV, but it's difficult to find one that gives the day of the week. Oh, yeah, they'll give you the time, in every time zone, and sometimes even the date, but rarely........hey, with the date I can look at the calendar and get the day. I knew talking this out would help. Previously, my only solution was to look at my pill organiser, and hope I hadn't screwed up my meds...again. (Actually, I just realised how much it sounds like I did screw them up. hehehe)
Well, that went so well, let's try the Second ponderance - - How do you look up a word in the dictionary, when you don't know how to spell it. This one has bothered me since childhood. I would ask my mom/dad how to spell a word, and you all know what the response was, - - let's say it, all together - "GO LOOK IT UP". There was no spell check. You wrote it wrong and took the bad grade and got yelled at again. No point in trying to explain why you couldn't look it up. In our house that would have been 'sassing back', which was not encouraged. 'Nuf said. Still haven't figured it out, but for all the tortures I did inflict on our kid, she never heard "Go Look It Up"
So
- - These are the kinds of things I like to think of:On Wednesdays when the sky is blue,
And I have nothing else to do.
I sometimes wonder if it's true,
That who is what and what is who.
.....................................................W.T.P.
<*><*><*> And then I wonder, how are you ?

My secret
put the word in Google how you think its spelt and it says "Did you mean to search for" etc,
I just check my xanga to see the day hahaha.
Bored out of your skull, huh!
Glad you stopped by my site...come by any time.
I hope to win something in the art show. My art lessons are paid weekly and get very expensive. It is a privledge to be taught off of such a tallented artist.Tom's paintings run around 3,000.00 a painting. The man amazes me. And your writing amuses me! Have a nice evening.
I think there is actually a dictionary made for non-spellers where all the words are entered phonetically and with several different spellings. If you look up the wrong spelling, it gives the correct one, and if it's right, it's in red or something. I saw one once somewhere, but can't tell you what it's called. Pretty cool, though.
I use Google "spell check" - it automatically keeps me honest. If I spell something wrong it underlines the word in red until I get it right. You will have to download the Google tool bar.
I love dictionaries...someday I'll have my very own o.e.d.. My boyfriend has the condensced version (which made me love him even more), but I want the monster multi-volume needs-its-own-bookshelf version. Ahhh.....
I just spell things how I want to spell them. Spell check is funny; sometimes it works and sometimes it just craps out and tells you that perfectly spelled words are misspelled. But I do use the dictionary to "look it up", 'cause if you can get the first couple letters, you're likely to find it in there. Plus all the other neat words you pass in finding the one you want...
ryc: I do love the peoples on xanga. So supportive and loving (or variously, argumentative and close-minded...but there's fun there too).
Finding stuff to download is awkward if you get the spelling wrong too.
Cottage pie is made with beef mince, shepherd's pie with lamb mince. I didn't know that for ages, I called them all Shepherds pies. *As it's a British bathroom I was in it's bigger than if it just had a tiolet, the window is by the sink.
And you know what? I was the second best speller in the whole school. Despite my terrible de skip line, har!
Thanks for stopping by! Come by any time!
ryc- LOL I know what you mean... If Dog's comment wasn't a nasty
racist thing, I would have immediately just dismissed it as a publicity
thing. It is true, though, that he's all over the news now!
I maded you a widget peecture:

fancy fancy!
The dictionary thing has always been a problem for me. I can't spell and phonetics don't work for me. Thank GoD for spell check, as well as online dictionaries that will often guess what you're trying to spell.
I had many college professors think I was stupid, then they realized I just couldn't spell--so badly so I was helpless.
Regarding the dog question: You sound just like my family. I get all excited and proud of myself that I send them timely pictures of my trip and now all they're asking about is the dog.
I get him tomorrow. Pictures forthcoming.
i used to be able to spell ok, then i took algebra in in college and after that, the spelling was just...gone. and so i had to delete algebra and replace it with beer.
Hi Moe, thanks for the visit. I have a hard time setting the date and time on my TV screen. I am not good at that. I did notice the computer updated itself for the end of daylite savings time.
Blessings
